The Grevy’s Zebra Trust aims to conserve and grow the Grevy’s zebra population in Kenya.

We were established in January 2007 to address the urgent need
to conserve Grevy’s zebra (Equus grevyi) in the community rangelands of Kenya and Ethiopia. We are an independent wildlife conservation Trust registered in Kenya, and the only organisation that is 100% dedicated towards saving the endangered Grevy’s zebra.

What We Do

The Grevy’s Zebra Trust (GZT) is the only organisation in the world with a mission focused solely on conserving the endangered Grevy’s zebra. Recognising that the survival of the Grevy’s zebra depends on its ability to coexist with people living in northern Kenya, GZT believes these communities must be at the centre of designing and driving conservation efforts. GZT therefore works in partnership with communities from monitoring Grevy’s zebra through citizen science, to co-designing site-specific and tailored solutions to threats facing the species. In all of its work, GZT seeks ways to use data and information to inform decisions and solution for positive conservation outcomes.

Where We Work

We are a small organisation working at scale in Northern Kenya across an area of more than 10,000 km2 in three regions – Wamba, El Barta and Laisamis – in the counties of Marsabit, Isiolo and Samburu. Here, we employ more than 80 local people who work together to address the threats facing Grevy’s zebra. Our field headquarters are in Westgate Conservancy and we have an administrative office at the IUCN office complex in Nairobi.
